IPv6 in Africa

how to solve IPv4 lack of addresses
Monday April 5th, 2004.

This is an introduction Article about what use can be done with IPv6 . At ESMT (Dakar SENEGAL), we only have 64 public IP addresses for about 150 computers. This is due to the fact that Africa has not been given many prefixes by the RIPE/ARIN NCC. Therefore, we are forced to use NAT, wich is a complete disaster for peer-2-peer applications, such as MBONE. We are a peer that can only receive, but not send.

Thanks to IPv6, we can have plenty adresses (there is no such private adresses and NAT in IPv6). And now, we all use the M6BONE to attend meetings, conferences, and also distant learning (DIM).
